Baking healthy sugar-free baby spelt sticks

Hello to all the mommies, daddies and caring relatives,

These healthy baby spelt sticks have long been part of our family standard snack selection 😉 . They consist only of fruit, flour, and rapeseed oil. This makes them the perfect baby snack sticks, which by the way, even slightly older children will enjoy.

    Healthy sugar-free baby spelt sticks

    Taste and Occasion

I baked the sugar-free spelt sticks for the first time in 2015 when the little baker of happiness had started to live not only on mom's milk but also on real food. The starting point for many healthy recipes for baking for babies and toddlers.

It would also be unfair if I baked delicious things for us parents all the time, but the offspring would only get bought baby cookies (with all kinds of additives).

Meanwhile, our little daughter is also nibbling away, which I took the opportunity to share this article with you. The snack bars are super easy to prepare: a big plus for stressed mommies and daddies who still want to give their children something homemade!

The spelt sticks without sugar and egg are suitable for babies from about 6 months. Our little daughter really likes to eat them, even if it is sometimes more sucking and playing than a real meal.

Her big brother also likes them (still). Since the breadsticks are rather compact, they seem to do her good when teething. She has already managed 8 teeth…so there is still a lot to come ?

    Ingredients

Admittedly, the homemade snack bars are not to be compared with regular snack bars for adults. Nevertheless, for me they belong to the best homemade snacks for toddlers.

In contrast to many purchased products, the baby stick recipe contains only "good things". Specifically: spelt flour, vegetable oil (I always use rapeseed oil) and slightly sweet fruit or vegetables.

I got the idea to make spelt sticks myself from a German blog. But as always, when I get inspiration, I changed the recipe. In this case, I used less flour and grated apple or pear instead of carrot.

How to make the Healthy Baby Spelt Sticks

The recipe for the spelt baby snacks is rather simple. First of all, finely mash the ripe banana with a fork. Then, peel and grate the apple. Knead both with the flour and the oil to a dough.

For the next step, preheat the oven 360°F / 180 °C. Cover a baking sheet with baking paper. Form long thin rolls from the dough, cut off longish pieces with a sharp knife and form them into points at the ends.

    Recipe Recommendation

    Crispy Baby Bread Rolls

A simple recipe for baby bread or baby buns full of healthy ingredients. The baby buns are a perfect snack in between meals, for breakfast or dinner.

And that's pretty much all about it! Now you only need to bake the baby snack bars for about 25 minutes until they get a nice light-brown color.

    Top Tip

You should better freeze the spelt sticks if you want to keep them for more than a few days.

The ripe fruit in the dough might otherwise cause the cookies to go moldy. At the moment, it's easy for me to keep a few in the freezer and take them out half an hour before dinner.
